Sasha and Marcus have been friends for forever, they've been through a lot too, but after having sex with each other they grow apart. Now, as adults, they meet again and the chemistry is there. Sasha is now a famous chef and Marcus works for his dad. Can they get together or are they destained to just be friends?
Written by Ali Wong and Randall Park, who are friends in real life and play the main characters, Always Be My Maybe is your typical will they/won't they romcom. What sets this movie apart from others like it is that you can connect to the characters. They are like-able and probably a little bit like you.
Ali Wong is probably best known for her two hilarious Netflix stand-up specials Baby Cobra and Hard Knock Wife. She was also a writer for the ABC show Fresh Off the Boat. Which starred Randall Parker. Parker is probably best known for the ABC show but also had roles in Aquaman, Ant-Man and the Wasp, and The Interview. Safe to say, they know what they are doing.
One of the best parts is the unexpected (okay not unexpected if you read the internet) cameo of Keanu Reeves playing himself as Sasha's new boyfriend. He plays what I can only assume is the jerk version of himself. Reeves is the internet's new love because of this movie and his John Wick franchise. It's not hard to love him...he seems pretty amazing.
Back to the movie, stop dreaming of Keanu! Always Be My Maybe is a great love story that is well written and easy to get lost in. If you love a good romcom and have an hour and a half to spare defiantly give Always Be My Maybe a chance.
Always Be My Maybe is now streaming on Netflix.
