I have been a massive fan of The Addams Family since I was a little kid. I always took comfort in Wednesday, a gloomy but still loving character. I felt a sort of kinship with her.
I was excited when I saw Tim Burton was creating a Wednesday series about my favorite goth icon. I was even more excited when I saw the cast.
I watched Wednesday when it came to Netflix and binged the whole series in one night. I loved it but not in the ways you would think.
Wednesday was still the gloomy but loving character I knew, but something felt off. She was almost too grim. Wednesday, to me, has always had a personality and while she did develop one throughout the show, she wasn't familiar.
I also didn't love Gomez and Morticia in this series. They seemed one-dimensional and flat. They didn't feel in love. It just wasn't The Addams Family to me.
That doesn't mean I didn't love it. I loved the goth chick investigating gruesome deaths at a supernatural high school aspect. I am excited to see where season two goes from here.
