Harry Styles and Florence Pugh in Don't Worry Darling (2022)

Alice and Jack have a perfect life but things are not always what they seem. When Alice's friend seems to disappear after an accident, she uncovers a truth that changes how she views the world around her.

Set in the 1950s, Alice and Jack are part of a community called Victory. They have a perfect life, Jack works for Victory and Alice stays home. They attend parties and hang out with their friends. The only rule is not to leave the community.

After Alice's friend Margaret has an accident and is never heard from again, Alice begins to become paranoid that Victory isn't all it seems to be. She starts challenging the creator Frank which puts Jack's career and possibly her life on the line.

Florence Pugh plays Alice, the paranoid 50's housewife, brilliantly. Pugh has made a name for herself in the psychological thriller world. She really makes you believe that Alice is struggling with what is happening to her. Her facial expressions are always on point and her chemistry with co-star Harry Styles is great.

This is Harry's first time in a starring role, having played a minor role in 2017's Dunkirk and 2021's Marvel Eternals. Many thought he wouldn't be able to keep up with Florance Pugh and the all-star cast but Harry always comes through. It's surprising that he was able to hold his own but he does it really well. While it isn't an Oscar performance, he pulls it off really well.

Director Olivia Wilde creates a world that is bright, shiny, and terrifying. Everything in this movie is beautiful, from the costumes to the set design. The world really feels like a 1950's dream. Wilde was able to take a concept that we've seen before and still keep the audience guessing.

Don't Worry Darling was marred by rumors of on-set disagreements, co-stars not wanting to do press together, and who can forget Spitgate but at the end of the day, this movie delivers. It's a great take on the perfect utopia gone wrong genre. The acting is phenomenal and the story keeps you guessing. Don't let the bad press keep you from catching Don't Worry Darling in theaters.
