Before we get started I have to say that I have seen the original Pet Sematary and I read most of the book. HOWEVER, I remembered very little of both so I will be judging this movie on it's own. Okay, let's get started.

Louis and his family move to a new town and a house out in the woods. When the beloved family cat passes Louis and his neighbor Jud unleash the power of an ancient burial ground.

Based on a Stephen King novel and a 1989 movie, this movie makes a few departures from the original content. It's not a departure that ruins a movie, the big twists are new and exciting while still keeping the original in mind.

Having not seen the original or read the book in a long time I was watching this as its own thing. I wasn't thinking about how it compared to the originals but I knew enough about them that I wasn't too shocked by a lot of the things that happened. There are differences - the one who dies, Jud's wife being dead, the cat is different, things like that but you don't get too caught up in the details.

The best part of this whole movie was the actress Jeté Laurence, Ellie, because wow. Her performance was not only believable but made the entire movie. Had her performance not been as good as it was the movie might not have had quite the impact.

The ending was also different from the original, and without going into too much detail it's really dark. The impending doom from realizing what was happening made the whole movie come together. After the movie you sit there listening to the cover of The Ramone's Pet Sematary just thinking about what had just happened. You start to think about what you would have done in that situation. It sticks with you.

Pet Sematary is a really good, spooky movie with harsh consequences and stunning performances. If you haven't seen this yet I recommend it. It's a great movie to watch on a Friday night with a bowl of popcorn.
